COMMON CORNCOCKLE Agrostemma githago/em>

Annual plant from the clove family. It creates a long, often over a meter long shoot, from which narrow, lanceolate leaves grow. Both the stem and leaves are covered with soft, silvery hairs. At the beginning of summer, flowers appear on long shoots - usually there are several of them on one plant. The tares flowers are calyx-shaped, with intensely purple-pink petals. They are rich in nectar and therefore eagerly visited by bees and butterflies as well as hoverflies (flies). The plant prefers sunny positions with a well-drained substrate. It does well in compact plant communities..
